Do skip hire yards have to report?
If the yard holds an environmental permit for a waste operation and skips are tipped there, yes — from 1 October 2026 it is a receiving site and must report every load received. If the skip company only collects and tips at someone else's site, the reporting duty in 2026 sits with that site, not the skip company.

The skip-specific traps
Your own vehicles are the carrier
When your lorry tips a skip at your own yard, the receipt still needs a carrier registration number — yours. Make sure the office has it and uses the same number every time.
Mixed skips and waste codes
A mixed skip is usually reported under the mixed construction and demolition code, but a skip that is all plasterboard, all soil or all wood is not "mixed". The code should describe what came in. If you sort on site, what leaves later is a separate movement.
Volume versus weight
Many skip yards have no weighbridge. Report by the measure you actually use — the skip size as a volume — rather than inventing a tonnage. Do not report a weight you did not take.
Hazardous items in a skip
Asbestos, paint tins, gas bottles and fluorescent tubes turn up in skips. A load containing hazardous waste must be reported as such, with the consignment code — or a stated reason if there is none. Photograph what you find and attach it to the load.
Wait-and-load and grab loads
The same rules apply: a load is a load. What matters is the site it is tipped at, not the vehicle that carried it.

The measure you actually take. For most skip yards that is the skip volume. Do not report a weight you did not weigh.
A skip came in with asbestos in it. What now?
Report the load as containing hazardous waste with the consignment code, or a stated reason if there is none, photograph it, and keep the evidence with the load.
