Digital waste tracking software, built from the carrier's side of the weighbridge.
Waste48 is digital waste tracking software for permitted waste receiving sites in England. It records every load received, checks it against Defra's rules before anything is sent, has it approved by the site if the site wants that, and files the receipt of waste with Defra inside the statutory window — keeping the evidence and the waste tracking ID against the load.
Where it comes from
Waste48 was designed and exercised by people with over thirty years' experience across UK waste carriers — administrators who have stood at the gate, signed the transfer notes and chased the missing carrier numbers. It was built for sites like the ones they have tipped at for decades, from the carrier's side of the weighbridge, and tested at the weighbridge as well as in the office.
What it has done
- Listed on GOV.UK's Report receipt of waste: choose a software provider page. That page states Defra has confirmed the listed providers meet the digital waste tracking requirements, and that buying software is at your own risk. Waste48 does not describe itself as "Defra approved", because there is no such thing.
- Passed all fourteen of Defra's production-approval test scenarios against Defra's integration environment — hazardous, POPs, missing carrier registration and missing consignment codes included — with no exemptions.
- Holds production credentials for Defra's Receipt of Waste API, issued 1 September 2026.
- Identified an error in the published API rules before launch, which Defra confirmed and corrected.
How it works
Two AI assistants do the work, and we named them so a receipt's history reads plainly. Reg records each load and names what is missing. Vera checks the completed receipt against Defra's rules and against sense, and sends it. Reg cannot send and Vera cannot change a record; that separation is built into the software. A person at the site can be required to approve every receipt before it goes.
What we will not say
No "Defra approved", "certified" or "the only". No feature described as available until it has shipped — anything in development is labelled "coming" on this site. No price anywhere on the site: pricing is agreed with the team, in writing, before anything is set up.
